Compressed air is the power source of sandblasting machine. Then, how we choose the suitable air compressor model for sandblasting machine?

Difference air compressor models are equipped for different sandblasting machines

  • 1.Pressure sandblasting machine & High pressure sandblasting machine: for each gun, the air consumption of pressure sandblasting machine is around 2m3/min, which is 15kw air compressor; while the air consumption of high pressure sandblasting machine is 3m3/min at least, which is 22kw compressor. The working pressure is around 8bar. The bigger air compressor, the better for sandblasting machine.

  • 2.Normal sandblasting machine also called hydrocone type sandblasting machine, the efficiency of each gun is lower than pressure sandblasting machine, normally the required air compressor is 1m3/min, 8bar, which is 7.5kw.

  • 3.Portable blast equipment with mobile dry abrasive blast systems are typically powered by a diesel portable air compressor. The air delivery of compressor is according to the different requirement of sandblasting machines.

Problems for incorrect compressor selection:

  • 1.Too large air delivery of compressor will cause the compressor a lot of no-load and large energy loss.

  • 2.Too much air filters installed will lead to great pressure loss and large energy consumption.

  • 3.If it is not centralized compressed air supply, such as the air consumption site is installed decentralized and far away from the compressor room, not only the compressor system purchase cost will be higher, but also the pipe system costs and maintenance costs will be higher.

  • 4.High compressor room temperature will decrease the running efficiency of compressor, decrease the air delivery and increase the energy consumption.

  • 5.Improper pipe layout with too much elbows will enlarge the pressure loss. Big dust in the air will also affect the service life of compressor. Temperature increase by 10°C, compressor efficiency decrease by 3%.

  • Moreover, for sandblasting machines, the air tank and air dryer are also required, to ensure the compressed air is stable, clean and dry enough for sandblasting machines. When choose the air tank, large models is required than standard model selection.
